Great Western Beach

Surfers: Newquay's three north-facing town beaches - Tolcarne, Great Western and Towan join up at low tide to form a mile-long stretch of sand, at high tide they're submerged. Always popular, and often crowded during the summer, despite the waves tending to close out. Best around mid-tide, with a light westerly cross-shore.

Surfing: a mile south of the town, this is a north west facing beach sheltered by east and west Pentire Points. Worth a visit when other beaches are blown out, the waves are best at mid to high tide. Hazards: rips.

Porth beach is a large Sandy beach with plenty of beach left at high tide.

Mawgan Porth Beach
Mawgan Porth beach The video below is taken by a holiday maker as he flew his radio controlled plane on the beach early in the morning.
From the surfers view Mawgan Porth is west-facing beach break situated four miles north of Newquay which can offer good fast waves in the river mouth when the sand bars are in the right place at low tide. It only really works well in easterly winds.

Whipsiderry Beach
Whipsiderry Beach is one of Newquay's quitier beaches even in the peak summer season.
Steep concrete steps to and from the beach provides the only access except for low water. Gently sloping sandy bottom ensures waves break along length of this beach break, both left and right.

Lusty Glaze Beach
Lusty Glaze Beach is a privately beach but is open to the to the public all year round.
Surfers: Breaks on both left and right working at all stages of the tide. A popular with beginners lifeguards are from the National Beach Lifeguard Training Centre headquartered at Lusty Glaze. There are rocks on either side which can catch the unwary between mid and high tides.
